About the project
Contemporary artist, sculptor, and woodturner Betty Scarpino is recognized as one of the masters of the genre. Her work is held in private, public and museum collections throughout the world.
Needless to say, I am thrilled to get the opportunity to design Betty's websites. I first created an HTML website for her in 2006. It held its own until Betty was ready for an complete redesign in 2017, at which time we moved to a CMS platform. The purpose of Betty's site is to give visitors an opportunity to see the work, and read just a little about Betty. Her work is available for sale in some of the finest galleries around, so there was no need to sell items on her site.
My goal in creating her site was to make it a an elegant environment in which the work would command all of the visitors attention. Basically I used neutral colors and negative space ("empty" space) to let the work shine. I think it worked.
Betty has a professional photographer who prepares her images, so they were ready to plug right in with no editing. I recommend all my artist clients hire someone skilled in taking pictures of their specific type of work.
Betty Scarpino's website features:
- Extensive home page slider that features images and info about some of her pieces.
- Search engine optimization.
- Extensive gallery sections that allows users to view more than 100 pieces.
- CircleWebWorks tech support, ensuring that questions are answered promptly, and the site is constantly updated and monitored for security and functional efficiency.
